Diwali will be celebrated on the 31st of October in 2024 and is one of the most exciting occasions for Indians as the country bathes in lights. It is celebrated on the basis of the moon phases. Diwali and its Significance 

Diwali, also popularly known as Deepawali, is not just a festival but a whole festive season for Indians as we celebrate the win of good over evil. It is a festival of lights, joy, and unity among the people and is celebrated with spiritual rituals, family gatherings, and vibrant decorations. The word Deepawali as it suggests means a row of deeps/earthen lamps that are used to illuminate the homes and surrounding and are said to invite prosperity and happiness. It is associated with the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his victory over Ravana, and Godess Lakshmi who is known to be the deity of wealth and prosperity along with Lord Ganesha worshipping the two gods is said to bring fortune and abundance for the upcoming new year.

Is Deepawali on October 31 or November 1?

The first day of celebration will be on the 29th of October 2024 which will be marked as Dhanteras. People widely worship Lord Dhanvantri who is known as the deity of health and healing. We also buy gold, silver, and utensils on this day as it is believed to bring abundance. 

The second day of celebration will be on the 30th of October 2024 which will be marked as Choti Diwali celebrating the victory of Lord Krishna over Naraksura. We clean our homes and light the diyas on our doorsteps that will invite Goddess Lakshmi to our homes.

The third and main day of celebration will be on the 31st of October 2024 which will be marked as Diwali. We worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha in the evening along with lighting our houses with candles and diyas to chase the darkness away. Families celebrate the occasion by gathering together and exchanging Soan Papdi along with other sweets. 

The fourth day of celebration will be on the 2nd of November which will be marked as Govardhan Pooja and we celebrate it by offering Lord Krishna a mountain of food. 

The fifth and final day of celebration will be on the 3rd of October 2024 which will be marked as Bhai Dooj which will be celebrated by all the sisters as they pray for the long and healthy lives of their brothers as well as the brothers who sear to protect them.
